Further discussion – why fear God

When the average Christian looses sight of the fear of God things get out of hand!  What comes from this lack of fear?  Easily, adultery, divorce, and other immoralities arise from our lack of fear of the Lord.  Paul in the book of Romans (3:18) discusses the fact that unbelievers became the target for the fear of God.  The early church strove to live in the fear of the Lord.  However, Paul would be very surprised to see the condition of today’s church.  Immorality reigns in the church just as it reigns in the world.  This situation becomes clear when we discover that there hasn’t been a book written on this subject since 1770 A.D.  Seminaries therefore use textbooks that basically ignore the topic.  This lack of subject material in seminaries means an entire generation went untaught about fearing God!!  With the Pastors not knowing; their congregations are untaught as well.

In order to revive this subject Dr. Morey’s book endeavors to bring back the teachings of Bunyan, Gill, and Spurgeon.  Wisdom begins with the fear of the Lord.  This should be our motto and battle cry as we go forth.  To where?  “Forward into battle, see our banner go.  Onward Christian soldiers, marching as to war, with the cross of Jesus going on before!”
