Daille,Jeane Daille on the Fathers

Daille on the Fathers, this book explains about the early church fathers.  The explanation talks about who really wrote the manuscripts.  Also how the fathers accuse others of misappropriations and errors.  In this masterful work, this eminent seventeenth century French pastor, John Daille, penned a well written warning.  Why do we need this warning?  Daille’s readers need to turn from man’s writings to the infallible scriptures for wisdom and guidance.  Daille examines the writings of the early fathers.  He provides evidence that these writings are not sufficient guides for understanding church doctrine.  He shows that the early father’s writings have been corrupted by misguided individuals.  These misguided men desired to have their ideas put forth instead of the truth of scripture.

Their “truths” support many Catholic doctrines that have no foundation in scripture.  Too often their works evidence scripture misquotations, contradictions, and weak scholarship.  These early fathers lived shortly after the Apostles and so were aware of the truths of the Apostle’s teachings.  Many fought heresies; hammered out good doctrine from scripture.  Even though this volume, written over four hundred years ago, it has undying relevance for today!  This work provides ammunition to refute arguments attempting to establish errant doctrine.

Too often modern preaching leaves out the words sin, wrath, and hell.  This is because it is thought that man must feel good when leaving church!  However, one should feel good based on the grace and mercy of God as shown in scripture.  The church relegated its constitution, the Bible, to second place to man’s word.  It is past time for the church to use scripture as its foundation for decisions.  Daille clearly calls us to follow the same path.  The Westminster Confession gives us another witness to this truth.

Blessed be our God above, Amen!
