Messianic Psalms: Psalm 16
Messianic Psalms: Psalm 16, messianic psalms refer to the life and work of Jesus Christ. Importantly the psalms in the old testament relate that Jesus existed from the beginning of time. This provides evidence that Jesus worked through ancient times. Dr. Morey reads the psalm in anticipation of explaining it through the rest of the lecture. Mean while we know that King David wrote this psalm since in Acts 2:25 Peter tells us this fact. The titles for each psalm written by a group of rabbis and not part of the original manuscript.
It appears that King David wrote this psalm while being pursued by Saul. For example, this psalm describes King David’s feelings while being pursued. King David in this psalm emphasizes that God protects us in life and delivers our hope in death. Likewise Verse one shows us a simple prayer for those in need, “Keep me safe, oh El!” Any prayer to God for protection reveals God as a sovereign God. Who but an “in charge,” sovereign God shows the power to protect those who ask. An explanation of the different names of God ensues. The Deity to whom David prays he names “El.” El shows strength of God and David used a name that reflects on the need of the prayer.
Jehovah refers to the God of the covenant. In psalm 23 we see this name used because psalm 23 refers to a covenantal God. Further enlightenment comes from purchasing this set and listening to it.
