Debate: Mecca
Debate: Mecca, Dr. Morey faces Dr. Jamal Badawi, one of the top Islamic scholars in the world. The topic of the first part of this debate refers to, “According to the Qur’an Is Allah the Supreme God?” Dr. Badawi speaks first in defense of the Qur’an. Dr. Badawi uses several encyclopedias entries to show Allah means God. He continues to reference these sources to tell us that Allah exists as the name Muslims use to talk of god. Then Dr. Badawi talks about the name Allah is a contraction of “Il” and “Ilah”. Il means the article “the” and Ilah means god. So Il Ilah means the god. When put together Il’Ilah pronounced becomes Allah. The speaker is trying to show that Allah shows no relation to the ancient “Moon God.” Referring to the same references Dr. Badawi says that the Arabic Christians refer to god as Allah.
The speaker raises the question about the worship of idols. His answer “Worship of Idols brought man closer to god,” He continues his argument that all of these references show Allah to be the supreme god. Then Dr. Badawi tries to convince the audience that the cresent moon bears no connection to Islam.
