Role of Human Reasoning
Role of Human Reasoning: The meaning of theology in the Bible meant to be the source of our theology, might there be a role for human reason? This lecture series shows how to put our reason and philosophy in its proper place, subservient to Scripture. We start out in Acts 17. The most action filled book, Paul’s conversion, Paul’s preaching in Greece. Paul’s forced attendance before the Areopagius. Paul told the Greeks about the “Unknown God”! The Unknown God preached by Paul was actually Jesus.
Paul continues to compare all gods to the unknown God. Therefore, through his preaching hundreds of people converted to discipleship to Jesus. The Apostle warns against false “prophets” and messiahs. Dr. Morey talks about rationalism as an attack against Christianity. All things must measure against and measure up to reason. Dr. Bob continues with a discussion of Descarte, the father of humanism. Humanism starts with man not God as the measure of all things. The subject of disc number one covers the above subject.
Continuing the Role of Human Reasoning
Disc number two continues the discourse about humanism. Now Dr. Bob uses the book of Romans to uphold his statements. God gives the knowledge of good and evil, beauty and evil, not man! Solomon asks for wisdom to rule the people of God. God granted Solomon’s request for wisdom, therefore, Solomon wrote the Proverbs. Scripture never mentions human reason as the foundation for anything. In actually humans are just created items of the Lord. Therefore the mysteries in scripture of the Trinity, the vicarious atonement of Christ get thrown out by unbelievers.
The discs number three and four Continue discussing humanism verses Scripture. Of course scripture wins over the human mind because the mind is finite. Only God is infinite!
