Table Talk 5 (4 CD) Just as with the preceding Table Talk CDs Dr. Bob answers questions pertaining to the Christian religion. The first question asks about church history. Dr. Morey talks to the early history of the church. He uses biblical references to reveal aspects of history. Scrolls stored the written word. The Synagogue kept their scrolls in a scriptorium. Because synagogues taught letters and reading they turned into schools of higher learning.
The discussion tells how authorities added certain writings of the Apostles, Paul’s epistles, to the body of Holy Scripture. Paul asks that people not go beyond the writings of the Bible, no individual interpretations. The New Testament written to read out loud. The early church met in the synagogues. When they got asked to leave the synagogue they moved into house churches. Eventually they acquired their own buildings and became free standing churches.
Scriptures should be compared to the original languages. Some translations miss some words and some add words to make it read easily. God sent His Son to save His people. God sent the Holy Spirit to bring His people home. What we eat does not defile us, what comes out of our hearts defiles us. Questions bring out these missed translations from various versions.
Another question asks about self-flagellation. Self-flagellation need not follow to the letter. Some Christians do fall away from the faith. Believing and possessing faith in Christ are two different items.
