Right to Fight
When is it Right to Fight? This video addresses this topic in an interview format. Dr. Morey and Dr. Sedlak discuss the biblical influence on fighting. Starting in Matthew the discussion turns to a statement from the Be-Attitudes. “Blessed are the peace makers!” Who are the peace makers? Dr. Morey tells us that the peace makers force warring parties to stop fighting. Scripture speaks nothing against Christians serving in the military. Many Christians serve as police officers on the street enforcing the law. Scripture shows no prohibition of Christians using force to protect first themselves, then their family, and if necessary their country.
If a Christian sees an act that maybe considered immoral, his duty becomes stopping that activity. If it requires violence then violence becomes admissible. The discussion turns to a history lesson about how the Irish took over policing in cities. A published book told how Jesus supposedly was a meek, turn the other cheek person. At that time a lot of Christians resigned from the police. The Catholic Irish took over. Then the talk turns to the revolutionary war. The reason for this topic, a lot of officers and militia belonged to the Presbyterian church. It became the “Black Robe War” because of the pastors involved.
Passivism is not biblical. Jesus turned out the money changers in the temple court yard. “You have turned My Father’s house into a den of thieves!” Jesus was crucified because of His non-passive character. Any and all Christians, Lay and Pastors need to watch this video.
