Relationship Between the Old & New Testaments
Old verses new testament; Are the Old and New testaments related in any way? Should we even read the Old Testament? Does the Book of Leviticus hold any relevance for modern Christians? This lecture series explains the nature of the covenants and why we still have our complete Bible. People gave new Christians a book entitled “The Bible.” However, sixty-six books comprise the Bible. In short this prevails as an encyclopedia. During the period when scripture persisted there occurred no reference to old or new. They called it “scripture, and referred to it as “scripture.” Often people determined to take this encyclopedia literally.
Old verses New Testament. The discussion continues with monogamy vs polygamy. How many wives God gave Adam? Some religions refer to the Old Testament to espouse more than one wife. God took one rib from Adam and created one woman. So the Old Testament shows us monogamy. The lecture compares Roman Catholicism to the priesthood of the Old Testament. So we see the priest doing all the worship while the congregation just sits there. In the New Testament the alter moved from the center of focus to the side with the pulpit at the center. This moved the center of focus to God’s word and away from man’s works. All worshipers became priests, a priesthood of worshipers.
The root of the problem between the testaments subsists of three fold situation. The early translators broke the scriptures. Instead of keeping it one complete unit. People assume that the Old Testament means the same thing as the Old Covenant. They don’t mean the same thing. The Old Testament is a literary document describing the history of salvation. The Old Covenant is a legal document between God and His people. The same applies to the New Testament and the New Covenant.
