The Deity of Christ
The Deity of Christ Dr. Morey begins with an explanation of the times in which we live. He describes a picture of a Christian greeting a Muslim leader. To clarify, there stands an attempt to say that all religions are the same. However it means all religions teach “to love your neighbor!” In the Gospel of Matthew we find Jesus starting a new line of religion. He tried to reform Judaism to no avail. So it became time to start a new trial. In Matthew 16 Jesus announces He begins a new church, to begin this church Jesus quizzes His disciples. Jesus must know where His disciples stand. Questioning them on many occasions Jesus asked, “Who do people say the Son of Man is?” This reference calls attention to Jesus’ deity because this statement refers to God in Daniel and Isaiah. Jesus received many answers to His question.
Jesus came across with strength and at times infuriated people. People tend to think that Jesus persisted as a meek, good old boy. Not so, else why kill Him? Therefore, Jesus ticked off a lot of people in His time! Then the ultimate question to His Disciples, “Who do you say I am?” Importantly because of Jesus starting a new church, He needed to know where His disciples stood. The true answer came from Simon Peter, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God!” For the first time in his life Peter got it right!
