And God Mocked Them
And God Mocked Them: The Divine Use of Humor and Ridicule in the Bible. But Jesus would never hurt any one’s feelings! We should all be sweet, kind and loving! Is the modern-day Church suffering from political correctness? Dr. Bob demonstrates, through Biblical precedence, that ridiculing the absurdities of false religions is an effective evangelism tool. Ridicule of false religions prevails as a virtue in scripture. Charles Spurgeon spoke of the great reformers of the day not being popular or well liked. The original reformers commanded the support of real men and women. Dr. Bob uses psalm 2:4 as an example where God scornfully laughs at the rulers. It continues saying that God also mocks those who rebel against Him. Dr. Morey continues using more psalms as evidence where God laughs at or mocks those who raise rebellion against God.
And God mocked them, The minor prophets used humor and mocking against the false religions of their time. People may argue that the Old Testament showed a different image of God and the prophets. So now we move to examples in the New Testament. John the Baptist told the people the whole truth and he provoked Herod to kill him. The Baptist told people the truth and rebuked their sinning. He abode in the anger of those he rebuked even the King Herod. Jesus cleared the Temple court yard of the money changers. The Pharisees and money changers therefore hated Jesus.
